On Sunday, May 18, members of the Blue Star Mothers of Nassau County, NY Chapter 14 attended a powerful Remembrance Service for Those Who Gave All, held at Our Holy Redeemer Church in Freeport.
The guest speaker was Monsignor Charles Fink, a Vietnam veteran who served a 21-month tour beginning in 1969. During his service, he earned the Purple Heart and later wrote the moving poem Bury Me With Soldiers, which has deeply resonated with generations of veterans and their families.
Following the ceremony, we had the honor of meeting Monsignor Fink and presenting him with a commemorative star—a small token of appreciation for his service, his words, and his continued dedication to honoring fellow veterans.
The event was open to the public and brought together local community members, veterans, and organizations in a shared moment of gratitude and reflection.
It was a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by so many, and why we continue to support and remember our heroes—every day, not just on the calendar.
